Mahoning Valley Safety Council: Stop the Bleed!

Uncontrolled hemorrhage is a leading cause of preventable death after injury. Because a person can die from blood loss within minutes, it is critical to stop the bleeding as quickly as possible. Recognizing that bystanders are almost always the first on the scene, the Stop the Bleed campaign was created to equip the public with the knowledge and confidence to save lives.

Our speaker, Amanda Lencyk, Trauma Injury Prevention and Outreach Coordinator at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, will join us to explain the Stop the Bleed initiative and demonstrate how three quick actions can empower anyone to intervene in a life-threatening bleeding emergency.

Organized by Homeland Security, the American College of Surgeons, first responders, and law enforcement, the Stop the Bleed campaign emerged in response to mass-casualty events, including mass shootings. Similar to the widespread availability of CPR training and AEDs, increasing public awareness and expanding access to Bleeding Control Kits can mean the difference between life and death before professional responders arrive.
